Teachers voice interest in election

April 10, 2012 Carol Henderson, ATA President

Tremendous turnout to telephone town hall!

Understanding full well the workload of teachers, I was overwhelmed by how many of you took the time to participate in the ATA’s telephone town hall on Tuesday, April 3. How impressive and uplifting that 10,000 ATA members took part and gave a strong voice to our profession!

Through your questions, party representatives heard first-hand about a wide range of teacher concerns. Even better, with 10,000 of you from every corner of Alberta paying close attention to their responses, you sent each of the party representatives what is perhaps our single most critical message: teachers are deeply interested in the provincial election and want a government that will support and commit to public education.

With both a provincial election and the expiration of our five-year agreement on the horizon, we have the opportunity to create conditions for better teaching and better learning. Your participation in our town hall was a big step toward that reality. Thank you so much for sharing your voice.
